FAITH AND WORK DO BATTLE FOR THE CROWN

TO THE WORK THAT MARKS MY FAITH   by Glenn W. Harrell  4-8-18

From the book of James

You believe that God is one?

You do well, but hear this word;

Demons too believe and shake

When the name of Christ is heard.

All who name the name of Christ

Let His mind be free in you

Humble works and faith abound;

Demonstrate His word is true.

CHORUS: To the work that marks my faith, send me Lord as if a slave.

                 Working out my faith within, witness to the life you gave.

Quick to hear and slow to speak,

Slow to anger everyone.

Anger fails to win His smile

In His will the truth is done.

Work devoid of faith is vain.

Faith excused of work is dead.

When the two are rightly joined

Christian, you will raise your head.

CHORUS: To the work that marks my faith, send me Lord as if a slave.

                 Working out my faith within, witness to the life you gave.

This you know, beloved Saint

Put aside all mocking sin

Prove yourselves and hear the Word

Hear and do the Christ within.

Pure and undefiled to God-

Plight of orphan, widow too.

Visit each in their distress

Naught of worldly stain on you.

CHORUS: To the work that marks my faith, send me Lord as if a slave.

                 Working out my faith within, witness to the life you gave.
